LET GenEd Triage: Where Philippine Examinees Lose Time

How to prioritize English, Filipino, Math, Science, and Social Studies for the LET — triage weak areas without abandoning coverage.

General Education on the LET rewards breadth under time pressure. Examinees often lose points not because they “know nothing,” but because they spent weeks polishing one subject while another quietly collapsed. Triage means ranking repair work without abandoning the map.

Run a five-subject snapshot

Complete a short set in each GenEd family: English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science, and Social Sciences. Record accuracy and average time per item. The subject with low accuracy and high time is your primary fire. The subject with decent accuracy but slow pace is your secondary fire.

English

Failures cluster into grammar mechanics, vocabulary-in-context, and passage inference. Fix grammar with short daily drills. Fix reading with timed passages where you underline the question task before options. Literature items need recognition plus elimination skill — do not only memorize titles.

Filipino

Under-allocation is the classic trap. Schedule Filipino weekly even when English feels more comfortable. Treat grammar and comprehension with the same error-log discipline you use for English.

Mathematics

Separate concept misses from arithmetic slips. If concepts fail, return to worked examples before timed sets. If arithmetic fails, slow down and force a check step on every choice. Geometry and data items often need diagrams — scratch paper is not optional.

Science

Science stems mix recall with interpretation. After each miss, write the principle in plain language. Rotate life, physical, and earth themes so one unit does not dominate your week.

Social Sciences

Build timelines and cause-effect notes for Philippine history and civics themes. Trivia lists without structure collapse under distractors. Pair reading with short application sets the same day.
