LET Reading Habits for English and Filipino Items

Practical reading routines that transfer to LET English and Filipino comprehension stems — task-first reading, elimination, and error logs.

Reading items on the LET punish passive highlighting. Whether the passage is in English or Filipino, the winning habit is task-first reading: know what the question asks before you drown in details.

The task-first sequence

  1. Read the question stem and identify the task (main idea, inference, detail, vocabulary, grammar in context).
  2. Predict the answer type in a few words.
  3. Read the passage with that task in mind.
  4. Eliminate options that are true-but-irrelevant or extreme.

Build bilingual stamina

Alternate English and Filipino reading days so one language does not atrophy. Use the same error log format in both: task type, trap type, vocabulary to revisit.

Vocabulary without endless lists

Collect words only from misses and from passages you actually read. Create five-word weekly decks with example sentences. Context beats giant alphabetical lists you never review.

Grammar in reading clothing

Some items disguise grammar as comprehension. If options differ by agreement or verb form, switch into grammar mode deliberately. Short daily drills prevent those from becoming random guesses.

Weekly plan snippet

  • Two English passage sets.
  • Two Filipino passage sets.
  • One mixed language day with strict timing.
  • One review-only day for vocabulary and miss tags.

FAQ

I run out of time on passages. What first?

Practice the task-first skim on untimed sets until it is automatic, then add timing. Timing first encodes panic.
